One thing that I think is completely overlooked is making your own syrups at home. It is incredibly easy to make any fruit syrup, especially strawberry syrup and it takes less than 20 minutes to make! Ever since I started making my own strawberry syrup at home, I have never looked back, not once! It tastes far better than store bought strawberry syrup and it doesn’t have any of that artificial taste, which is why I love making it myself!

You can make any fruit syrup you want with any fruit with such ease, but I will explain more later :)

Benefits of making homemade strawberry syrup

  • Fresher flavor. Making strawberry syrup at home captures the bright, fresh taste of real strawberries, unlike many store-bought versions that rely on artificial flavoring.

  • Customizable taste. You can adjust the flavor to your liking. For example, add lemon juice for brightness, vanilla for warmth, or even herbs like mint or basil for a unique twist.

  • Multi-use versatility. Not only is strawberry syrup good in drinks like coffee, matcha, or iced tea, its also perfect for drizzling over pancakes, waffles, ice cream, yogurt, and cakes!

  • No waste. If your strawberries are starting to get a bit soft, turning them into syrup prevents them from going to waste.

Steps to make strawberry syrup

  1. Wash strawberries thoroughly. Its always a good idea to wash your produce.

  2. Quarter the strawberries. This helps the strawberries cook faster and release all of their juices.

  3. Combine with sugar and water in a pot. Aim to have a larger pot than you think you need.

  4. Cook for 15 minutes. Or until the strawberries turn a pale red color and begin to get mushy.

  5. Cool to room temperature. I like to put my strawberry syrup in a squeeze bottle for easy serving.

How to make any fruit syrup

I was saying earlier that you can make any fruit syrup with whatever fruit you want with ease. To do this, the recipe is simple and easy to remember. What I do is for every 1 pound of fruit you’re going to combine it with 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar. It is a 1:1 ratio. So for example, this recipe is using 2 pounds of strawberries so it will need 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water. It’s as easy as that!

You can make blackberry syrup with fresh picked blackberries, or you can make peach syrup when peaches are in season. Lets not forget about blueberry or raspberry syrups either! The possibilities are endless and it lets you be creative and experiment with different flavors!

Prep time: 5 MinCook time: 15 MinTotal time: 20 Min

Ingredients

Strawberry Syrup
  • 2 pounds Fresh Strawberries
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash strawberries.
  2. Remove the stems from the strawberries and quarter.
  3. In a large pot, combine quartered strawberries, sugar, and water.
  4. Heat over medium heat for 15 minutes or until the strawberries turn a pale red color and are mushy.
  5. Strain the mixture and press on the strawberries with a rubber spatula to get as much liquid as possible.
  6. Discard the cooked strawberries.
  7. Cool the syrup to room temperature.

Notes

  • Make sure to use a large enough pot, it is easy for the mixture to bubble over and that will create a large mess.
  • Stir often to make sure the mixture doesn't bubble over the top.
